With its funky orange and white bungalows and hip, offbeat style, the Samed Club is the closest thing to a boutique resort on this side of Ko Samet. Accommodation is divided by the road into two halves: rooms closer to the beach are set around a small turquoise pool, and the bungalows on the other side are set in a tropical garden. The design in the rooms is playful, with orange-striped bedside lamps, and either abstract paintings or Japanese pop-art prints on the walls. The huge beds in the deluxe cottages are set in raised dark wood niches, which also feature recessed built-in TVs. Bungalows have small decks with benches, which feel secluded thanks to the use of large leafy plants. The restaurant has a decent menu, and a long list of cocktails. Motorbikes can be rented here for 350B per day. The Samed Club has a private ferry running to a pier in Ban Phe several times a day. For the style and comfort of their bungalows, their rates are good value. Recommended.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Quiet, enjoyable place away from the crowds - 24th August, 2009
Paid 2,200 for a Hillside Delux cottage. We were on a stopover four night trip so paid more than we usually would (incase we were stuck inside during the rainy season) but thought it was good value. The rate included a big buffet breakfast(which got a bit ''samey'' after day three!) For some reason the restuarant was always deserted in the evening (we ate on the busier beaches as well).
The room was very clean but there were a few things I wouldn't expect in such a place (previous guests' fingerprints on the windows/dust on the blinds etc. The bed was big and comfy.)The shower was nice, but got water all over the bathroom. The staff were friendly.
The view from the balcony wasn't so great as the roof of the cottage below blocked a lot of it.
The beach (while not as pretty as others) was quiet and looked like a good place for a read until I got bitten by many sand flies....guess that explained its lack of sunbathers/swimmers.
It took two resonably fit people about 20 minutes to walk to the main beaches.
The hotel has motorbikes for 350B/day.
