Mooban Talay Resort

A classy tropical retreat

What we say: 4 stars

Mooban Talay is one of the most elegant and upscale resorts on Ko Samet. Palm-shaded pathways lead between Thai-style bungalows, all just a quick stroll away from the white sand beach. Given the good supply of less expensive spots, you may often have the lovely beach here all to yourself, making this a far more secluded spot than the resorts of the west coast. The lodgings are simple and immaculate, with lanterns and bamboo mats, well-designed open-air bathrooms and an overall very pleasant tropical ambience. You even get your own hammock. The resort has a beachside pool that is a little on the small side. The beach is pretty, though not quite as pleasing as others farther south on Ko Samet. The views of high-rise buildings across the shore can puncture the island magic, though the distant peaks of Thailand look beautiful in a bit of haze. The staff are attentive and quick to discount rates outside of the weekend. Make sure you have transport as the resort is at the end of the beach and it's a 45-minute walk from here to Nadan.
