To reach Ao Phai Huts you need to tramp up a wooded hillside. It's worth the short walk as guests receive a friendly welcome and the choice of several adequate rooms. The location's not bad either, nestled between good swimming and sunning spots at Ao Phai and Ao Hin Khok. The individual wooden huts are clean and well looked after, though they do range a bit in quality. If the first one you see isn't up to scratch, be sure to ask to see another. Huts in the back are set at the edge of the forest in a thick bamboo grove, and offer a lot of privacy -- you won't hear the bars at night, but you can still hear the sound of the sea. The restaurant here is passable, though some of the places on the beach are a better choice if you want a good range of seafood. Air-con rooms include breakfast.

Security Risk!! - 20th November, 2009
I very recently stayed here for 2 nights. Everything above you read about it is very true, nice staff, peaceful and quiet, etc. However, I woke up 2 nights ago at 5am to find a Thai guy standing over me, rifling through my stuff!! He bolted straight away with my laptop and wallet. The staff admitted that this happened 2 nights ago to another tourist, and before that too, in the same bungalow no less!! The huts are very spread out and it seems the same thieves are freely roaming the grounds every single night looking for bunglaows to break into (as other travellers told me they heard/saw suspicious guys walking around each night they stayed). There is no watchman here at night, so nothing to stop them. Sure, there's security boxes at reception, but who likes to find a stranger in their room at night having picked through two locks?!? So, dont stay here..choose a place that at least has a watchman at night, as the (helpful) police told me these break-ins has been endemic over the previous few weeks on Ko Samet!!

Friendly Staff - 8th July, 2009
This place is pretty cool. It looks nice and the bungalows are your basic classic bungalows with private decks and some chairs to relax. The staff is friendly and works hard to keep the place clean. But, the rooms are very very basic. Which isn't so bad, the fan room kept us cool on a hot evening. The only big problem is with the showers, the water is pretty funky.
If you don't mind roughing it and not taking great showers, this place is an option. Good price and great location right on Ao Phai.
