With bright colours and a bar blasting Ibiza club beats, Lima Coco announces that it's younger and hipper than its more upscale neighbours. It's certainly one of the most inviting and stylish spots on this coast, with friendly staff and white Mediterranean-style bungalows. The rooms are clean, with colourful bedding — the pink spangly shower curtains in some is fit for a drag queen. Rooms also boast large windows, wooden floors, TV, air-con, hot water in private baths, and some have refrigerators. Though organised in an unusual terraced fashion, they're good quality. Unfortunately, the day-glo colours of the combined bar and restaurant come off a little poorly against its more chic neighbours. Bagus Cafe by the lobby does Thai and international standards and is also the most reasonably priced place for a sunset snack and drink. Popular with young Thais. Rates include breakfast and round-trip water transfer from the Chokkrisada pier in Ban Phe.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Highly recommended. The prices have gone up a bit -- there are nice standard rooms with TV and private bath for 2,500B and then several others in the 3,000-4,000B range, all with thailand beach names ("andaman", "phi phi", "krabi" etc.) the rooms are well-lit and well-decorated, and the foliage surrounding the bungalows is really beautiful. Definitely the place to go if you want to stay on Ao Phrao but are too cheap/can't afford the resorts.
