With skis mounted on the walls and Thai sculptures scattered throughout the lounge, Swedish-Thai owned Viking comes off as a little unusual.
Stacked closely together behind the restaurant and reception, smart yellow vilas are clean and cheerfully designed with Thai silk wall hangings, loads of hanging sea shells and polished concrete floors. They're also equipped with air-con, TV, WiFi, fridge, hot water bathrooms and large front porches with a fair amount of tropical greenery providing at least a hint of privacy. The resort offers massage, a European-Thai restaurant and several loungers on one of Ao Thian's better beach areas. The enthusiastic receptionist offered us a 50% discount on the usual prices, along with a little “Don't tell anyone else because I'm doing you a big favour” nudge nudge. As would be expected, the place gets a lot of repeat business from Scandinavians and other northern Europeans, so advanced bookings are recommended in high season. The rack rates seem to be for weekends; major discounts should be expected on weekdays.
