As we wandered amid Vong Duern Villa's white-washed cottages spaced well apart within tropical foliage, we saw a cat lazily lying on a bench, a guest doing Tai Chi in an empty courtyard and a young couple sitting serenely on the rocks that form Ao Wong Duen's quiet southern point.
Though a fairly large resort, this is one of the most relaxing spots on the island. The cheapest rooms are in a long, single-floor attached building, but even these are fairly spacious with a soothing minimalist theme that incorporates plenty of natural light, pastel colours, tasteful framed photos and sky blue benches on private terraces. Note that some rooms only have a curtain to separate bathroom from bedroom. The pricier editions have antique wood make-up desks to go with fridges, tiny TVs, firm beds on raised wooden platforms and floor cushions set around low-standing tables. Though they're beginning to show their age, all rooms appear well-kept with fresh white linens and a cheerful seaside cottage atmosphere. A quiet restaurant terrace, massage salas and benches occupy the rocky outlook at Wong Duen's southern end.
