As luxurious as Ban Phe gets
A 300 metre walk further west past the Diamond Hotel brings you to Mac Garden, which offers the most swish accommodation in Ban Phe.
All rooms are set back a good distance behind the resort's imposing two level restaurant, so unless the neighbours are staying up partying in the room next door, this a very quiet choice. Surrounded by tropical foliage, free-standing deluxe wood bungalows are comfortable, spacious and stylish, with well-done dark wood interiors, large front porches and all of the mod-cons you would expect for the price. But while these are better than similarly priced options on Samet, it's questionable value for Ban Phe. Behind the wood cottages, bunker-like concrete standard rooms are attached in motel-style rows and are far less inviting. Though these are spacious and equipped with air-con and TV, the one we checked out had no window and smelled a bit musty. Still, it should do for a quiet night's sleep. Ample parking is available behind the aforementioned restaurant, which was playing some psychedelic-ambient music during our visit. WiFi works in the restaurant but not in the rooms. If you end up here, try the seafood noodles from the 'Mantis' stand next to the resort.
