Laem Yai Hut House
Reasonably quiet choice

What we say:
Nestled above the beach on the northern end of Haad Sai Kaew, Laem Yai Hut is a sprawling collection of wooden and concrete bungalows. Bungalows are dug into the hillside and painted in pale pastels, with most boasting large decks designed to catch the breeze. Laem Yai was originally two operations, now combined into one -- the northernmost set of bungalows is better quality and is spread out comfortably. Those farther south are rather shabby and crowded. The restaurant is reasonable but service can be slow. Their beachfront bar sets out five solid-colour tables on the sand at night, creating a hip but quiet spot to relax and enjoy their long menu of cocktails. Breakfast is included, though they're willing to cut a few hundred baht midweek if you forgo it.

kick-back
Family owned, clean rooms, quirky vibe, enjoyable accommodating staff. Rustic get away, tucked on farthest end of lively Samed beach scene. No roads small path to hut, or walk beach. No pool required, clear gulf bathwater! BBQ good, excellent fries and cold beer service @ beach lounge-chairs, but fun to explore other food/entertainment at cafes down the beach for meal-time. TIP: When 5 or more, forgo ferry and tuk-tuk, rent power boat and jump out @ front desk!
