Cliff Cottage
Sunrise and sunset views

What we say:
Cliff View and Cliff Cottages seem to have amalgamated, or at least are supervised by the same management. It consists of a series of thatched huts overlooking the village of Bang Bao below, with the rooms up high facing either south or north, both with breathtaking panoramic views. The rooms are fairly standard and don't have much to set them apart from the crowd, but the bathrooms are nicer than most you'll find in budget accommodation. The rooms on the cliff top share facilities, which are pretty decent and very clean. They back onto the restaurant which has a cool wooden decking which lounges out over the ocean for killer sunset photos.

Amazing Location, Awful Bungalows
Stayed here for New Years 2011. Read many reviews I read said things like "could use TLC". Why the management hasn't heeded this advice is beyond me. The location - a breathtaking secluded cove in a quiet area - is amazing. The common area consists of an assortment of hammocks, comfy seats and chairs that look out on the cove. The restaurant is a bit overpriced but tasty. It's just perfect - except that the bungalows are total pieces of crap. Some stand at angles that look like they would blow over in a strong wind. Ours was at such an angle that my boyfriend kept rolling onto me in the night. And after nine months of traveling, I can say the Cliff Cottage bed is the MOST uncomfortable one I have had to endure - lumpy yet hard as a rock. If you do consider this place, e-mail the owner and ask if he has made any improvements. It is Western owned, so you'd think this guy would have a clue about hospitality. It would take such a small amount of money/effort to make this place the best place to stay on Koh Chang!

needs some work
what can i say, the restaurant looks nice good place to hang out. the bungalows could use a facelift, it looks like there hasn't been done much the last few years or so. there are shared bathrooms and the building is very... let say basic. the place just needs a little bit of work and it is a top location! but if it is still the same i wouldn't go back there.

Quite nice, but needs some TLC.
The huts don't overlook Bangbao, so perhaps the location has changed. Some huts on a ''local'' beach, some on a hilside, some with good views of the ocean, but I wouldn't say ''breathtaking''! Good points: very quiet, attractive resturant for reading or meeting others (food average though), not a ''scene'', swinging in hammock (if you get one of the huts with a view), staff quite friendly, only 5-6 minutes walk to Bangbao, the little beach outside of Nirvana next door is quite pretty, seemed to be good snorkling near the rocks. Not so good: shared bath quite far from top huts, huts quite badly constructed - in mine the windows and frames didn't align so you couldn't lock them. Could use my own lock outside, but at night discovered the inside lock completely broken so a rock kept my door closed! Bed was incredibly hard so woke up several times with pins and needles. Sheets were clean but very holey! The manager seemed to be pushing Monkey Island on Mak as he recommended it three times within 24 hours! Could be a great budget place, but the huts have been neglected. Tried to book by email but was referred to the website. The website says 300 but booking is via Hostel World - they charge 350 plus booking fee so at around 400 it didn't seem value for money, even for Ko Chang.

Good value, lacklustre service
This place has a lot going for it - beach huts, tho rough and ready are fair value at 300 baht/night, and the views from them are amazing, positioned as they are on top of a cliff. Sure, you'll have sawdust and wood chips coming off the walls, and a mosquito net with holes in, and it's lacking a bit of TLC but again you get what you pay for. The social area - bar, restaurant, lounge, is a cool wood-decked platform which looks out over the sea. There are hammocks, low sofas, cushions, and it's comfortable and classy. Lots of friendly travellers to chat to. The bathroom/showers are reasonably new and clean, tho it's a trek down tricky steps to get to them. The food is excellent, there's a wide range of Thai and western dishes served all day. You can swim in the bay, and the water is clean enough, but be careful as there are apparently vicious sea urchins, so wear footwear.
