With its thatched roofing over old teak wood walls painted aqua-blue, the Paradise Homestay captures the laid back feel of what Bang Bao was like before tourism replaced fishing as the village's main industry.
Though small and basic, the rooms are clean and very pleasant, with multi-coloured bedspreads on firm beds, wood-panelled walls painted flush white, and old-fashioned washboard style windows that can be propped open to allow in the sea breeze. Some rooms come with air-con and others with fans, but all rely on surprisingly modern shared hot water bathrooms set in a new polished concrete block. The homestay offers a quality coffee shop, mountain bikes for rent and a spacious common area with TV and cushioned perches. As the whole place is perched over the sea, guests can drift off to the sound of gently gushing surf beneath their pillows.
