With an elegant Thai theme and great views over the bay, Bhuvarin offers a romantic setting and great service at prices that will make flashpackers happy.
The receptionist spoke perfect English and was one of the most polite and positive people we met on Ko Chang. The cosy resort is built into a steep hillside, and roofed salas offer respite to guests walking down the long staircases from the dirt road up above. The resort offsets the somewhat remote location by offering free kayaks and boat rides to Bang Bao Pier or Khlong Kloi Beach at any time of day. Opening onto a small but inviting swimming pool, the cheapest standard rooms have wall-size glass windows and modern furnishings and appliances, including LCD TV, fridge, comfortable queen-size bed and rain shower in the ensuite bathroom. While these are good, the more private sea view rooms with elegant traditional Thai wood carvings and dark green and blue stained glass window panes above massive clear glass windows are a big step up in terms of style. They're some of the more romantic rooms we saw on the island, and the prices are very reasonable.
