Description
With a national park behind it, Buddy House is in a quiet, remote spot and owned by the manager of the Grand View in White Sands Beach, Mr Pook, whose English is impeccable. Catching a fresh breeze from the mountains at night, in the still air at dusk thousands of mosquitoes circle hungrily, so take your repellant. Bungalows come in a couple of different styles. Balconied wooden huts, higher up the mountain at the back of the property, have basic facilities, more modern concrete buildings sit at the front with air-con, Thai TV (cable to come) and hot shower. A cooking area is provided so that guests can cater for themselves, with particular emphasis placed on Muslim-friendly facilities. They also supply tents and rent motorbikes, which you'll need to get to anywhere interesting. Plans for the future include improving existing bungalows and building more air-con ones. And while they intend to encourage package tours, this is the kind of place that is more likely to appeal to independent travellers looking for a quiet place to hang out.

Paradise Palms
Haad Kai Mook, Ko Chang
Not just a great deal for the price, but a lovely guesthouse in its own right, Paradise Palms was the first accommodation directly on small Haad Kai Mook four years ago. Now getting a little hemmed in by neighbouring resorts, this cosy place offers clean, comfortable and well-appointed rooms as... more

Anushabar
Haad Kai Mook, Ko Chang
Very reasonably priced, Anushabar is situated on the road between White Sands and Haad Kai Mook, on the beachless side of the road. This isn't as much of a detriment in other similarly located places; as well landscaped gardens are attractive and spacious leading to a hilltop sala and restaurant,... more

Saffron on the Sea
13/10 Moo 4 Hat Kai Mook, Ko Chang
Right on a small strip of beach, Saffron on the Sea has a slightly bohemian feel; each bungalow with a different style. Generous size rooms are fairly simple, but have some nice decorative touches. Those with air-con are also endowed with English-language TV and a hot shower, only one with a... more

Koh Chang Privilege Resort and Restaurant
13/5 Moo 4, Haad Kai Mook, Ko Chang
An immense beachfront property sprouting uniform cement bungalows, Koh Chang Privilege is a very Thai-style resort, symptomatic of what is happening on Ko Chang. Newly built, they are a work in progress. Sterile, square bungalows are not particularly attractive, but are very clean inside. All... more

Charmed Resort
Haad Kai Mook, Ko Chang
Don't fall for the dubious charms of this 'resort'. Although the outside has been quite attractively done up, rooms are actually constructed entirely from large shipping containers. Two to three storeys high, each has a floor mattress, air-con and private bathroom, some with satellite TV. The... more
