Cookies Hotel
Pleasant rooms, too much cement

What we say:
Once a backpacker favourite, Cookies now has two massive white hotel buildings on both side of White Sands' main road. The new building by the beach is a whopping concrete monster with plush rooms overlooking a lavish infinity pool... a long way away from its humble starts with cheap bamboo huts. There's loads of tanning decks spread around the pool which seem to be more popular than the beach -- its probably the kind of place where people wake up early to place their towel on a sun bed. Corner rooms are the best option as they cost the same as the ordinary ones, but have a lot more window space. Airy and sizeable, amenities include air-con, satellite TV, a fridge and clean, pleasant bathrooms, and gorgeous wooden floors in the more expensive rooms. On the mountain side of the road, it's four storeys of pretty much the same affair but without the pool, and so a touch cheaper. (the majority of the deluxe and superior rooms are on the beach side). Rooms all have private balconies complete with table and chairs. The huge restaurant which spills onto the beach sells pretty much anything you can imagine and has an excellent evening barbeque with plenty of seafood offerings.
