With a name that translates from Thai as "Crab House" (so stop your snickering kids), Banpu has frontage on both the beach and the main street, with a small but attractive beachside swimming pool and terrace restaurant.
Set in front of a small two-storey block of rooms, concrete villas are painted brown, topped with low-hanging thatched roofs and packed tightly into a lush garden. Most rooms are not huge, and a little dark, but pleasantly rustic with hardwood floors and walls, tasteful art and mosquito nets hung over comfortable beds. All rooms come with air-con, TV, fridge, safe and attractive bathroom done up with translucent green tiles. The villas are a little closer to the beach than their hotel block counterparts, though only the ones all the way at the front have sea views. There's a distinct Swiss Family Robinson vibe going on here, very tropical, with mustard yellow umbrellas to punctuate the browns, tans and greens. The beach is decent here too; just be careful when wading, as there are quite a few boulders in the shallows that sit ready to stub toes. Staff are friendly and the small resort has a cheerful mood about it.
