A loo with a view

Located a bit north of Chang Bar and Independent Bo, the unassuming May La Mean is a good cheapie for those who want to be close to the action but still enjoy some peace and quiet after dark.
The best rooms are the purple and blue seaview numbers; both have hot water, hardwood floors and outstanding views from large porches. The cheaper rooms in a longhouse building out back have thin walls and are far less inspiring, though acceptable for those on a budget. The restaurant is essentially a platform on tall stilts over the beach, a wonderful place to hang out and read a book or chat with other travellers. The food is tasty, and the staff relaxed and welcoming. But the highlight is found in one of the pricier rooms in the form of a wall-size window that looks out over the vast ocean and sunset -- from the toilet. Now that's what we call paradise.
