Set to the far end of the main drag heading towards Chai Chet, the quaint Cliff Resort boasts one of this area's most peaceful settings -- if you don't mind a 10-minute stroll to the beach.
Detached villas are perched on a steep hillside, with the lack of a sandy shore offset by excellent sea views, quietude and birdsong. Inside, the rooms are simple but spacious, cool and smartly designed with polished cement floors, wall-size windows, cushy beds and all expected extras -- air-con, TV, fridge, safe, coffee-maker, hairdryer. Extra-large decks stilted high above the hillside are an added bonus. The resort is set well off the main road in an idyllic spot with giant old trees providing shade. The cheapest rooms look back towards the trees, but most are placed above a switchback walkway that snakes down to the rocky seafront. The resort lacks a pool but does have a karaoke room and raised terrace restaurant with fetching views. The receptionist we met was laidback and friendly, and the enormous family houses are a great idea if you travel in a pack.
