Nails the backpacker vibe

Ko Chang is so big, we’ve split it up into areas, select one of the below for detailed accommodation and food listings in that area. Sights and general overviews for Ko Chang as a whole can be found via the icons above. Don’t know where to start? Read an overview of Ko Chang’s different areas.
Compared to backpacker-oriented Lonely Beach and Bailan Bay to the south, Kai Bae is more geared towards families, flashpackers and long-stayers, but this hasn't stopped Buzza's from nailing the chilled out atmosphere that many budget travellers seek.
Set along the narrow river that empties into the sea at Kai Bae, the stilted restaurant and bar fills up nightly with travellers' tales, good music and well-done food and drinks. Owner Julie seems like one of those first foreign travellers who discovered Ko Chang back when only the intrepid came here to crash on the beach, and she now keeps that spirit alive despite the island's development. Some set in detached concrete bungalows and others in two-room blocks, the rooms are basic -- firm bed, fan, mosquito net, a couple of windows, porch -- but they do come with hot water in wet bathrooms with sky blue walls. Though it's still a walk from the beach, Buzza's is set on the ocean-side of the main road in a quiet grove fronted by an ancient, towering tree. The sign on the main road is easily missed; look for the far larger sign for Coral Resort, which is directly on the shore just passed Buzza's.
