Located across a dirt lane from Kai Bae elephant camp, just inland from the main road, Sanook Sanang is a small, laid back guesthouse-style resort that's best-suited to those staying a week or more but isn't a bad nightly choice either.
Rooms are set in motel-style rows around a well-kept garden with blue tables painted to resemble butterflies. The standard fan and air-con editions are identical, the only difference being your chosen means of cooling. While not huge, the rooms are pleasant, very clean and equipped with fridge, cable TV, firm bed, large hot water bathroom and terrace with large wood table that's suited to dining-in or getting some work done. The resort also offers a somewhat out-of-place but great value traditional Thai-style family house. The friendly owner can usually be found chatting with her long-term guests in an inviting open-air lobby area. Free WiFi works reasonably well. Hearing the elephants trumpeting next-door adds something special to the atmosphere, and Kai Bae's "hidden" waterfall is just up the road.
