Occupying a massive area that borders Blue Lagoon, we preferred Tropicana over nearby Barali, Emerald Lagoon and The Dewa thanks to its less pretentious attitude, and the fact that rooms come just two per building rather than dozens stuffed into hotel blocks.
Winding wooden bridges lead over streams that run past mature tropical gardens. A large swimming pool with separate kids pool and waterslide looks out to sea, and nearby the spa offers sauna, massage, treatments and jacuzzi. Fully equipped rooms are stunning; vaulted wooden ceilings, king-sized beds, solid hardwood furniture, TV, fridge, safe -- generally a sumptuous finish that leaves a lasting impression. The bathrooms are also gorgeous, with expensive turquoise ceramic tiles and classy marble basins. Most rooms have an indoor and outdoor shower, the latter having an open roof to allow the sunlight and fresh air in. It's not the cheapest resort, but remains solid value for money. It sits on a prime piece of beach in the centre of Khlong Prao, and we found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Note that rates fluctuate often throughout the year, with great deals available online if booking weeks in advance.
