Backpacker crash pad

What we say: 3.5 stars

Cozy Corner is one of two backpacker crash pads on Ko Kut. It's right beside Mangrove Bungalows and the bungalows here are very similar. Regardless of fan or air-con you get the same hut (pay extra to get the remote) and these were some of the cheapest air-con huts we saw on Ko Kut -- and they even had TVs (and empty Sangsom bottles out front). In a nod to the mosquitos, bungalows are fully screened in, though note the bathrooms are not -- so keep that darn door closed! The location is a solid 10-minute walk to the beach, but that won't kill anyone, and you will get a bit of traffic noise during the day as songthaews hustle people to the waterfall. They also have a handful of discounted rooms in the building by the restaurant -- fan-cooled with shared facilities for 200 baht. Overall we think the share bathroom huts at Ngam Kho are better value (as they're right by beach) but if you're on a budget, want your own bathroom and don't mind a walk to the beach, Cozy Corner should be high on your list. If you can't get in here, a further kilometre down the waterfall road lies PD Guesthouse (T:(081) 750 5163) which advertises fan bungalows for 350 baht and air-con rooms for 500 baht -- they also had tents in their front yard making them a possible backup in high season.
