Koh Mak Villa

Stunning location, beautifully executed

What we say: 3 stars

Perched at the top of the hill between Ao Suan Yai beach and Ao Kao beach, Koh Mak Villa is a resort house made up of two separate buildings. Unfortunately what was once one of the flagship resorts on Ko Maak has been mismanaged and neglected over the past few years. It's a shame because four years ago this place was immaculate. Rooms can be rented individually or as an entire house made up of two downstairs rooms and one upstairs. Those downstairs are simple yet good quality, with an ensuite bathroom attached. Upstairs rooms are bigger and have a glorious panoramic view out over Ao Suan Yai and onto Ko Kham. A small bar/cafe downstairs serves a limited menu (if open), while there is WiFi, motorbike and mountain bike rental. The well-tended garden provides a relaxing environment to absorb the coconut palm-dotted view. The location allows guest access to both main beaches and customers are permitted to use the pool in the nearby Goodtime Resort, though bear in mind your also sharing that pool with residents from the 30 or so homes neighbouring Good Time. Prices are a little steep, particularly considering the standard rooms come only with fan.
