Description
Lazy Days had a complete remodel in the summer of 2007, to the extent that literally nothing of the original resort remains, except the dilapidated toilet block which for some bizarre reason survived the demolition. The new look Lazy Days is modern, airy, and a lot more expensive than its predecessor. A huge restaurant is the first major change, and although not architecturally pleasing it serves wonderful authentic food. Large white art-deco type bungalows have replaced the thatch bamboo, and with them comes air-con, gorgeous open air showers, premium grade mattresses, and an island first, slow-close toilets, of which the owner is very proud. Never will a seat slam shut again. With eight rooms sharing their own 250 metres of private beach frontage, this is actually one of the most exclusive and secluded locations you could ask for. Couple that with their excellent restaurant and its a fantastic package -- if it's in your price range. For the old Lazy Days crew, there's still a hadful of budget bamboo bungalows in the resort to the rear of lazy days, run by the same family.

The makeover is nearly finished, there are now nice, big bungalows with sea view and a spacious bathroom. Restaurant is good too and prices very reasonable. Beach is very clean. Owner and staff extremely friendly and helpful with bookings, transport, information.

Baan Koh Mak
17/1 Moo 1, Ao Kao, Ko Mak
Possibly the best resort on the island, Baan Koh Mak is a collection of small white concrete bungalows circled around a small hand-built lagoon. Pleasantly decorated, they have an open and light airy feel. Two styles are available, and although they are priced the same, one version is larger, with... more

Ao Kao Resort
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Ao Kao Resort offers a selection of clean but dated bungalows ranging in price according to size and amenities, and is generally overpriced. The beach however is gorgeous here and offers sublime sunset views. The restaurant is a bit on the expensive side, but has cold Singha beer on tap and a good... more

Monkey Island
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Monkey Island Resort is run by the Monkey Shock Thai restaurant chain of the same animal moniker based in Bangkok. Bungalows are attractively built and furnished, but frankly, the high season price of 1,700B for a basic hut with cold shower is outrageous, no matter how stylishly done. Basic... more

Baan Chai Lay
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
With only four beach front villas and a couple of rooms at the back, this miniature resort is probably one of the most attractive places to stay, in main because of its great location. Wedged between the larger Holiday Beach and TK Hut, many people walk right by without noticing Baan Chai Lay. The... more
