Description
Possibly the best resort on the island, Baan Koh Mak is a collection of small white concrete bungalows circled around a small hand-built lagoon. Pleasantly decorated, they have an open and light airy feel. Two styles are available, and although they are priced the same, one version is larger, with a front that opens out and extra windows. All have private bathrooms with a cold shower and western toilet, as well as a brightly painted front door. The beach cafe serves tasty, decently priced Thai and western food, and other services include beach trips, motorbike, windsurf and kayak rental. The staff are extremely friendly and will no doubt enhance your stay, unlike many of the other resorts on the island.

Fan Bungalows not shown -
By ajschneller ( total comments: 2  More information please ) Stayed here 1/2008
FYI: If you book a fan only bungalow during high season it is 700 B. Note that it will not be one of the concrete bungalows shown, it will be a basic wooden bungalow at Koh Mak Cottages, right next door, which is fine, but just note you won't be getting the colorful concrete version with nice plants, etc.. The beach here is great and if you windsurf they have tons of windsurfers for rent. Good cheap food is served at Baan Ko Mak and in the restaurants on the street behind the resort. Bring your own sunblock as its waaay expensive on the island. If you land at the Koh Mak Resort Jetty via speedboat, they will call Baan Koh Mak to pick you up with a truck. Also note this is a sleepy island, so if you want raging parties go elsewhere. Good snorkeling and diving nearby at ko rung.

Ao Kao Resort
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Ao Kao Resort offers a selection of clean but dated bungalows ranging in price according to size and amenities, and is generally overpriced. The beach however is gorgeous here and offers sublime sunset views. The restaurant is a bit on the expensive side, but has cold Singha beer on tap and a good... more

Lazy Days
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Lazy Days had a complete remodel in the summer of 2007, to the extent that literally nothing of the original resort remains, except the dilapidated toilet block which for some bizarre reason survived the demolition. The new look Lazy Days is modern, airy, and a lot more expensive than its... more

Monkey Island
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Monkey Island Resort is run by the Monkey Shock Thai restaurant chain of the same animal moniker based in Bangkok. Bungalows are attractively built and furnished, but frankly, the high season price of 1,700B for a basic hut with cold shower is outrageous, no matter how stylishly done. Basic... more

Baan Chai Lay
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
With only four beach front villas and a couple of rooms at the back, this miniature resort is probably one of the most attractive places to stay, in main because of its great location. Wedged between the larger Holiday Beach and TK Hut, many people walk right by without noticing Baan Chai Lay. The... more
