Kooh Mak Buri Hut Natural Resort
Stunning views, average rooms

What we say:
Buri Hut is one of the alternatives to staying directly on the beach, with a selection of lower and midrange bungalows built on a steep slope on the east of the Island, overlooking the tranquil Ao Nid bay. The cheaper bungalows, which they call Bali Huts, are basic but competent wood and thatch designs, perched at the very top of the slope. They're not the cheapest rooms on the island, but when you throw in the fact the resort has a swimming pool, free Wi-Fi, free kayak rent, and a free beach transfer service it doesn't seem such a bad deal! The bigger rooms are known as African Huts. Circular in design they do have a certain charm, though don't expect frills. Air-con, fridge and TV come as standard, though don't expect cable TV, just a few Thai channels. The pool is quite unique in that it has a terracotta finish to it, as opposed to the regular blue tile finish, and it's a decent size for lounging away the day. For those who don't crave sand and sea, this is one of the options.

Best Swimming Pool Ever!
Koh Mak Buri Hut may very well be the best kept secret on the island. The sea views themselves are worth the cost of the room, and the beautifully tiled infinity pool is the best swimming we've had all trip, maybe ever. It is definitely set up as a resort, with a pool bar, free kayak use, and motorbike rental, and the location far off the road makes it as peacefully quiet as possible. We made reservations for one of the bamboo and thatch Bali Huts, but lucked into the circular-style Africa Huts with attached hot-water bath and TV instead at a deep mid-week discount. Apart from the huts heating up a bit late in the day, we had absolutely no complaints about the room or any of the facilities. The attached restaurant and bar had a good variety (pre-order fish one day in advance to be sure). It was a bit expensive with thai standards at 100 baht, but still tasty and portions were unusually big. The isolated location could be a bummer for some, but could be great too, depending on what you want. But the 300 baht for 24 hours motor scooter rental was a good deal and made it easy to get around to the rest of the island. Definitely worth a look and we'd recommend it as an affordable but high-end island getaway. We loved it here.

Definitely GREAT
Buri Hat is a little bit away from the busy beaches what makes it a wonderful place to relax. the pool is big,the beach is nice, the lady who runs it is generous, friendly and enthusiatic. the bali style huts are very basic but ok, while the african style huts offer more (tv, ac) but the view is simply gorgeous from both. they come and pick you up from the pier where you arrive and bring you back for free. also 4 kayaks are available for free. the beach is not for swimming, the water isn't deep, so you'll enjoy your time at the pool. a wonderful resort!!!
