Forgotten hideaway for the reclusive
North-western end of Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Trat Province

Description
Over a hugely steep hill at the northern end of Ao Kao beach it's often the forgotten resort of Ko Maak, despite having been here for years. The stunning secluded bay is nestled alongside an old fishing village which provides scenes from yesteryear. The basic but respectable huts are set onto the steep hillside thus offering good views as well as some decent shade. The small restaurant attached gets good reviews, and the management can organise local boat trips to nearby reefs and islands.

lovely spot - a bit like a homestay the thai fishing family are around a lot, staff/family ( I couldnt work out which was which) were friendly. The food isnt always great but generally fine , being away from it all really makes up for it. Loved the fact that virtually no one else there - I guess it might get too much if all the bungalows are full. Travelfish is making this place more and more popular.

Ao Kao, Ko Maak
A reasonable value low-scale resort a few minutes walk north from T.K. Hut on a particularly scenic part of the beach. Island Huts
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
A small and simple operation, Island Hut has a number of decent basic bamboo bungalows right on the shoreline, with a hammock and deck chairs out the front. With colourfully painted doors opening practically on to the beach, the view makes up for the slightly grimy private bathroom with cold... more

T.K. Huts
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
T.K. Huts offers comfortable, but rather plain bungalows amid a shady forest canopy. It's been run by a German man and his Thai wife for years and they have a steady flow of regulars passing through. The bigger bungalows are closer to the beach, which gets a bit rocky at this end of Ao Kao. The... more

Bamboo Hut
Ao Kao, Ko Maak

The rooms are no frills but have decent mattresses and acceptable bathroom facilities for this price. Built by the same owner as Lazy Days this is sure to become the new hangout for the... more

Sunset
Southern Point, Ko Mak
Sunset is one of those places that you either love or hate. It has a typical traveller vibe and sees many of the same faces each year who come back for the laid back lifestyle which is mainly made up of hanging about in hammocks. There's no sand here as such as its located on a rocky headland, but... more
