Baan Ing Kao
Forgotten hideaway for the reclusive

What we say:
Over a hugely steep hill at the northern end of Ao Kao beach it's often the forgotten resort of Ko Maak, despite having been here for years. The stunning secluded bay is nestled alongside an old fishing village which provides scenes from yesteryear. The basic but respectable huts are set onto the steep hillside thus offering good views as well as some decent shade. The small restaurant attached gets good reviews, and the management can organise local boat trips to nearby reefs and islands. Popular with long stay backpackers, but bear in mind if your only on Ko Maak for a few days the remote location of the resort will inhibit your exploration somewhat.

Updating my review
Same review as last time - some bungalows have been updated to keep the bugs out, but I like the rustic wood floors. no internet so it's a great place to take a break from reality.

Short beach, clean bungalows
Stayed here for one week in late February - definitely isolated but there are two restaurants on either side of the beach. Very good food. Beachfront bungalows were 450, huts were 350 - Bungalow was 100% wood (minus the attached concrete bathroom) and very clean and well maintained. Mosquito nets provided and you need them, there are tons and tons of bugs and ants. The beach is short but almost alway empty and the views are incredible. Not within walking distance of 'town' but moto rentals are available from Baan Ing Kao for 80baht/hour. No internet. Service is decent but no one who works there seems terribly interested in smiling. If you're looking for rustic and/or isolated, this is a good choice!
