Baan Chai Lay
Superbly located mini-resort
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Trat Province
Description
With only four beach front villas and a couple of rooms at the back, this miniature resort is probably one of the most attractive places to stay, in main because of its great location. Wedged between the larger Holiday Beach and TK Hut, many people walk right by without noticing Baan Chai Lay. The four villas are where you want to be, literally stepping out your front door onto the powdery white sand. The small restaurant serves respectable Thai food and also some Western favourites such as pizza. This resort is popular with long stay tourists and the owner is happy to negotiate a decent monthly rate with those interested.

Baan Koh Mak
17/1 Moo 1, Ao Kao, Ko Mak
Possibly the best resort on the island, Baan Koh Mak is a collection of small white concrete bungalows circled around a small hand-built lagoon. Pleasantly decorated, they have an open and light airy feel. Two styles are available, and although they are priced the same, one version is larger, with... more
Ao Kao Resort
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Ao Kao Resort offers a selection of clean but dated bungalows ranging in price according to size and amenities, and is generally overpriced. The beach however is gorgeous here and offers sublime sunset views. The restaurant is a bit on the expensive side, but has cold Singha beer on tap and a good... more
Lazy Days
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Lazy Days had a complete remodel in the summer of 2007, to the extent that literally nothing of the original resort remains, except the dilapidated toilet block which for some bizarre reason survived the demolition. The new look Lazy Days is modern, airy, and a lot more expensive than its... more
Monkey Island
Ao Kao, Ko Maak
Monkey Island Resort is run by the Monkey Shock Thai restaurant chain of the same animal moniker based in Bangkok. Bungalows are attractively built and furnished, but frankly, the high season price of 1,700B for a basic hut with cold shower is outrageous, no matter how stylishly done. Basic... more
