Big Easy is one of the latest additions to Ko Maak, and a fine one it is too. A handful of hard wood bungalows are staggered and stretch back from the white sand beach, ensuring each one has a great view. The interiors are huge and each room has a decent balcony. Huge comfy beds are complemented by a decent wardrobe and dressing table, and the funky bathrooms are clad in a stone effect wall. Large glass windows face the ocean, allowing a good view of the beach from your bedroom. Families get a good deal here, with the double bungalow only a few dollars more than the regular ones. There is an adjoining restaurant right on the beach front, serving all the usual Thai dishes as well as a decent western style breakfast. Guests who need to keep in touch with international news will be pleased to find cable television in the restaurant, one of the few places on Ko Maak to have this luxury. The place is run by an English chap named Paul, and his family, and they will ensure you have a memorable stay with their super-friendly service.

Nice Beach, Bad Breakfast - 12th January, 2010
This place is way more than our accommodation budget, so we didn't stay here but we did stop by for breakfast and a swim. The rooms looked really nice, but weren't as close to the water as you'd expect in this price range. There were lots of families staying here. The beach was a nice, relatively wide stretch that was swept clean by the resort staff. The water was clean too, and the drop off into deeper water was not bad. There isn't much shade in this area, however, and we got really chewed up by sand flies here. Breakfast was a big disappointment, particularly the nescafe instead of real coffee and also since I was charged 80 baht for a tiny portion of museli and yoghurt, about half to a third as much as I'd got elsewhere on this trip. It felt like the inn-keeper was more interested in collecting our bill than delivering value to his customers.
