Sunset Huts
Popular hangout

What we say:
Sunset Huts features reams of bungalows of all different sizes, originally basic bamboo or wooden but now reinforced or in some cases rebuilt with cement. Those by the sea look out over the rocky beach and on high tide the balconies literally overhang the water. The downside is lack of a bathroom, those further back have less poetic views, with a fan and hot water shower, standard in all en-suite rooms, as well as a mosquito net. Right at the back are a few more solid bungalows with which a little extra effort has been made. The wooden platform restaurant on a little promontory affords great views out to sea, owing homage to Treehouse for its design. It's a much better option than Siam Hut in the same range.

Cheap but scary
One of the craziest accommodation situations I've been in, we opted for the super cheap 150B room and got what we paid for, it was practically falling down, very dirty and had an enormous (almost 30cm long) angry gecko inside the room! The gecko woke us up at all ours of the night with the most bloodcurdling cries, very scary. On the other hand though it was in a quiet location and fairly near the beach. very cheap too. I would definitely opt for a slightly more upmarket option though, and preferably somewhere right on the beach like Siam or others. We were there during the monsoon and had a lot of wild nights too, the bungalow didn't feel very safe.

close, but no cigar
overpriced for what you get, location is average, rooms are dingy and most falling apart. My first room had a broken fan, broken bathroom door, broken shower head and tap. The second had no handle on the door. staff are helpful until something goes wrong, my thai phone broke down and I lost contact for the evening with my roommates, I was really sick and needed access to the room but was forced to sit outside for hours because Sunset don't have any spare keys so I was locked out of my room with nothing, not even my wallet for hours with no assistance from the owner or staff. I moved that night. only worthwhile if you get a room on the water. otherwise find somewhere cheaper and better up near the shops... the walk to the beach is exactly the same. decent restaurant - you're better off just visiting for the monday night party

Good fun and well priced
Moved here after staying a first night on Lonely Beach in a cockroach infested hellhole... As long as you get one of the concrete sealed huts, this place is great. Had one overlooking the sea, with private bathroom, for 300B a night (low season prices, but still a bargain) Restaurant is a great place to chill and meet people, and the staff are very good fun and willing to have a drink and chat with you when they're not working. Lots of dogs roaming around but thats like most of Koh Chang, not a lot the owners can do about it. All in all I really recommend Sunset. In contrast to the above reviewer, I found Lonely Beach to be very chilled out and fun, maybe because I was in off season, but it certainly didnt seem to be a place bursting with drunken idiots even in high season

Not bad
Had a bungalow here, avoided the bathroooms. It's decent for a drunken **** of a few nights. Don't expect anything more. Lonely Beach is truly an ignorant hole not worth visiting, fall in and find yourself immersed in a place overrun by farang jerks and snobby boneheads. I will never visit this beach again. It's depressing and not worth a moment of life.
