Treehouse
Funky, bohemian style
Lonely Beach, Ko Chang
Trat Province
Description
This popular backpacker hangout is due to close in July or August 2006. The owners have opened an alternate guesthouse on the hard to get to Long Beach in the south but for the meantime the original Lonely Beach stalwart remains, at least for a while. Bungalows are cheap, basic, but with a few bohemian touches. All are very individual, have share bathrooms and do not have electricity. The open terrace restaurant has a terrific menu and is a great spot to hang out, while the rocky beach is just a few minutes walk from sandy Lonely Beach.

The huts are really horrible. The staff is not really freindly and you are not even on the beach. Sunset huts just next door or the Paradise Cottage (the last resort coming from Kai bee) are far better. Paradise Cottage is really the best spot on Lonely Beach and has certainly the best chill out zone.
Ok - but head for Long Beach - ![]()

It is still here, but mere shadow of its former glory, the bungalows are looking a little worse for wear and the cool pier cafe didn't have that many people there when we stayed. Siam Huts or Sunset Huts just next door seemed to be the new place to party on (not so) Lonely (any more) Beach. We stayed one night and then headed out to the new Treehouse on Long Beach (they have a free introductory taxi service at 10am everyday). The new Treehouse is def a great place to get some good rest and relaxation and we stayed 5 nights (at only 150Bt a night) but could have stayed so much longer. The bungalows are basic (no fans) but new and clean as the toilets and ''showers''(cold bucket). I would give the new Treehouse an 8. As for the old Treehouse for the price, there isn't too much to complain about.

Still on Lonely Beach, the infamous hole loaded with ignorant and unfriendly farang, as well as disenchanted Thai's who are likely tired of the ignorant farang that inhabit this area. Don't bother visiting Lonely Beach. It's only for those who want to be snobby and live poorly in moldy guesthouses full of jacked off misery. Don't bother staying on this beach.

they have a really nice&funky new website with tons of pictures: www.tree-house.org we stayed at lonely beach and yes it changed to a more ''party'' place but the new resort they have on long beach is just amazing!!!this is a real paradise which is hard to find today in thailand anymore.they have 1 km long, white, sandy unspoiled beach, very cute, cosy huts and its still the ONLY place on long beach!we had such a awesome time there, planed to stay three days in the end it was more than 2 weeks.absolut recommended!but have a look at the pictures on there site. www.tree-house.org

Yes, the Treehouse is still open and apparently going strong. Blindly following the Lonely Planet (Treehouse is actually their only listing for Lonely Beach) we headed for the Treehouse. It strikes me as the kind of place that was probably pretty decent when it first opened, but has lost its way and its values as it has gained in popularity, relying on its review in Lonely Planet rather than good old qulaity of service to bring in the guests. Although at first glance this place seems pretty cool, especially the communal restaurant/ bar area overhanging the water, we ended up having to leave as it drove us crazy. As another of these reviews mentions, the bungalows are crappy, and I could not imagine a less relaxing place if I tried. Now, I enjoy socialising as much as any other, but I'd rather not be kept awake by loud music and voices until six in the morning EVERY NIGHT, and spend my days sleeping. I think I got less than two hours sleep each night I was there, and that was not without trying. To make matters worse, they made us pay for our first night when we arrived, and then insisted that we hadn't paid this money when we tried to leave and were forced to pay again when we checked out. The toilets, though quirky, were not cleaned often and smelt bad, as did the huge piles of rubbish bags sitting in mountains and rotting under the hot sun. The staff were rude, especially the guy working behind the desk. Perhaps the sole redeeming feature is the restaurant which is cool place to hang out, especially when the tide is in. It has a cool atmosphere in the evening, and the food is generally ok (though not good enough to justify staying here, in my opinion, and besides, you can still hang out here if you are staying elsewhere). The quality of food and service is pretty variable however, with breakfast verging on awful. In short, this place will do at a pinch, or if your idea of a good holiday is partying until dawn every night and sleeping all day, although if this is the case, frankly, you might as well not leave your home country. We ended up moving to the Oasis, which is across the road and up the hill a bit. Although it was 50 baht more, the bungalows were infinitely nicer, they come with your own shower and western-style toilet and are much quieter and more peaceful. Although not right on the water, they do have a fantastic view and are only 5-10 minutes walk from the beach.

Paradise for some, but many will be turned away from the fact that the beach consists entirely of rocks and it's a 20min walk to get to some sand. Nonetheless, staff at this operation are very helpful and the place doesn't lack atmosphere. The bungalows are very basic, with mosquito nets over the... more
