Family atmosphere

A family atmosphere is what the owners of this operation are aiming for and if that means a bunch of kids running around the restaurant then they've excelled. Rooms are very clean and have more personality than most of the other options around the bay. Staff can arrange activities around the island such as fishing, snorkelling and elephant trekking. It's on the beach side of the main road, at the northern end.

Bailan Family Bungalow reviews

Read 4 opinions from Travelfish readers

Cut above the rest - 1st May, 2008
The owners of these bungalows (Net and Ning) are the most beautiful people you are likely to meet. Although we booked through a dodgy TAT office (paying far more than the going rate!) it taught us two lessons. 1) Never prebook through a TAT office (or indeed prebook generally - surely best to rock up and see what the best looking option is!). 2) That the most memorable places to stay need not be flash 5* affairs. To be sure the bungalows are very much the same as any of the other bungalows along that stretch of the island but the food cooked by Net (who gave me a very unconventional lesson after a few beer changs!) was superb and the atmosphere so naturally, genuinely relaxed that it really stood out from the somewhat false ''hippy''-vibe places up the road. The family welcomed us in with a real warmth - teaching us a lot of the language, games etc and even giving me my Thai name of Wunjun which I treasure greatly. When we stayed Net was planning to fix up his boat. Unfortunately we were just at the end of monsoon but I hope to go back there someday soon and take him up on the offer of fishing off a deserted neighbouring island. If you're lucky enough to be in the area, do be sure to pop in and say hi from wunjun and fah...

Apology - 6th September, 2007
Very sorry for the poor service detailed below.Had staff problems at start of high season last year but thats no excuse. If any 1 is booking with a travel agent in thailand(for anywhere) please book for the miminum number of nights. If the agent tells you it must be for at least 3 nights try walking out of the shop to see if its true.We have had some people staying with us who have paid almost 3x what we charge on the web or walk in price. We have no control over what the agents charge. We have extended and improved all our huts this year and if any 1 would like to give us another chance please check our website or hostelworld.com ,I will be in Koh Chang from the 17th dec to try and ensure no more bad reviews.I can also be reached on +66847276692 (thai Mobile)for an instant room availability check(text if you wish)indeed if you would like to give us a try and say you have seen this message i will buy you your first beer upon arrival.I wish you safe and happy travels through thailand.

8.30 PM and no-one to see us in? - 8th December, 2006
After a whole day of bus travel, finally reaching Koh Chang we thought we would at last get some rest as we had booked the bungalows a week earlier via the local tourist authority. Around 8.30PM we reached Bailan Family Bungalows and tried to check-in - no-one was there. We tried to search for the owners. After some 15mins we decieded to go eat something next door - at the Orchid Resort. After the meal we decided to stay in Orchid Resort which is a good place to stay and has a really helpful and nice owner.
