Situated a short walk from the action, but 10 minutes from the beach, KLKL is one of the quirkiest places to stay on Ko Chang.
As best we can tell, the theme is ‘prison camp for surfers'. Large private rooms (no dorms here despite the name) are in two-storey towers painted bright purple, blue or green. They're set around a decent swimming pool and surrounded by high fencing that ensure no escapes. Upstairs are the airy fan rooms, which are quite inviting with their ceiling fans, numerous swing-open windows, comfy beds on raised polished concrete platforms, mosquito nets and balconies. On the ground floor, air-con rooms are more-or-less the same, except for the blue-and-white mural of Mt. Fuji in the one we checked out. WiFi works only in the funky bar/lounge with sofas, a flatscreen TV, more colourful murals and guitars and skateboards scattered around. While it's not the best value in Lonely Beach, this is an interesting option nonetheless. At time of writing, the hostel had been open for less than a year and the staff member we spoke with was unsure of low season rates.
