Description
Sawang Homestay is a genuine opportunity to stay with a friendly family, sleeping on the polished wooden floor of their enormous house. This is a real Thai experience, with a fishing family who live on the edge of the bay. Their large wooden deck looks out to sea. This is not an ideal alternative however for people who need their privacy.

Urai's Place
128 Moo 2, Ban Salakphet, Ko Chang
This shabby private house has been turned into a modest guesthouse by its Thai/German owners. Rooms are basic but clean, with a private toilet, but shared hot shower downstairs. The Thai owner, Urai, is often alone while her partner is in Germany. The couple are both friendly, caring and chatty... more

Homestay Sengaloune
Baan Salakphet, Ko Chang
Follow the footpath past Salakphet Seafood and you will shortly come to a very open plan general store with a tiny yellow flag saying home stay. Head inside and you'll reach a large concrete deck looking out to the bay and a personal pier lined on one side with adjoined concrete rooms. These are... more

Diamond Hill
53/3 Moo 2, Baan Salakphet, Ko Chang
Diamond Hill is phenomenally expensive for what's on offer. Basic accommodation presents nothing either special or different, and is frankly pretty shabby despite recent renovations. An attractive small stream runs through the property between a local waterfall and the sea, neither of which can be... more

Chai Talay
Salakphet, Ko Chang
Pretty much out by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, Chai Talay is to the side of a private house and a large but not busy seafood restaurant. Simple bamboo bungalows march sideways down towards the mangrove-speckled seafront. A cement walkway leads out over these and muddy streams... more

Lung Top Salakphet Homestay
Salakphet, Ko Chang
With more personality than you can poke a stick at, the Lung Top homestay is a classic. It consists of a series of ad-hoc rooms stretching out from the main road over the bay, and is usually filled with Thai holidaymakers, kids everywhere, a few foreign guests, dogs, cats and occasionally a pet... more

Rim Khlong
Baan Salakphet, Ko Chang
Basic but pretty funky wood and bamboo bungalows stand next to a small khlong and on a T-intersection, otherwise in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are simple but pretty clean, with an attached bathroom holding a squat toilet and bucket shower. Being so remote, there is hardly anyone around, and when... more

Bai Fern Homestay
Salakphet, Ko Chang
In this big old Thai house over the water you have the choice between a private bedroom and sleeping with up to 30 others in the living room - either way, you pay the same. The on-the-sea location and gentle breeze keeps the mosquitoes at bay. It's located near the end of the marinas on the western... more
