River City Hotel

Classy spot

What we say: 3.5 stars

At 14 storeys tall and with a round, entirely glass bar/restaurant on the top floor, River City is one of the most noticeable buildings in town. With a solid location just one block from the riverside road, it's also the classiest choice, and rates still hovering just below the 1,000 baht mark make it good value for the money too. The reception area is smart and we noticed a bell hop opening doors and carrying bags for guests before they even set foot in the lobby. Rooms are a little drab, but large and clean, and the beds are very comfy. Views from the balconies of rooms on the upper floor are among the best in the city, but be sure to ask for a room facing the river as the ones in the back aren't any cheaper (don't be fooled when they tell you those have a "mountain view" that's just as good). As expected for a hotel of this stature, amenities like air-con, WiFi and TV with English channels are standard. A decent buffet breakfast is included and the top floor piano bar/restaurant is worth a peek even if not staying here.
