Niyana Guesthouse
Top spot

What we say:
Niyana opened the first guesthouse in Isan, over 30 years ago in Nong Khai. Since then she has moved a few times, but has always retained the welcoming and homely atmosphere that perenially fills her places. Set in a small wooden house, the rooms are clean with good beds and toasty bed covers -- try for a room upstairs at the front, as it is quite airy and fresh. All have shared bathroom facilities with piping hot water. Niyana is an absolute goldmine of information on things to see and do in the region. She also rents bicycles.

Niyana has closed
Having heard such good stuff, but also reports that it had closed, I had a Thai friend call Niyana (5 Dec 2009) and she was told that they were no longer in business.

Lovely
Lovely little guesthouse (3 rooms only) with an owner that you will just adore. Clean rooms, big veranda, hot water in a nice wooden house (it's not the one in the picture above). The place to stay if you visit That Phanom.
