There are a handful of old, dirt cheap hotels in Khorat that are literally falling apart and filled with bugs. While the centrally located Sakol Hotel is no Hilton, it does stand out as the only acceptable choice for a double room under 300B. The “lobby” doubles as a carpark, and at first glance the hotel doesn’t seem too promising, but that’s because they appear to put their efforts into the rooms themselves rather than the outer image. All rooms are spacious and clean with hot water showers and big windows to let in the light, although beds are painfully firm and the chairs and desks are fit for the trash. The fan rooms are solid value, and each come with a powerful ceiling fan. Overall, the building somehow stays relatively cool, even when it’s scorching outside. On the down side, staff speak very little English and are not particularly friendly, and WiFi is only available for 20B per 15 minutes -- ouch!
