Comfortable with character
402 Meechai Road
Nong Khai Province

Description
Set not too far from the bus station, towards the eastern end of town, Sawasdee has a range of clean and well-kept rooms in either the old (wooden) or new (concrete) wings of the building. Fan cooled rooms all have shared bathroom facilities, while the aircon rooms have private bathrooms. If you want a hot shower, they have a coin-operated hot water machine -- 10B for 10 minutes! If staying here, you're best off to avoid the rooms towards the street as they can be very noisy in the early morning. The hotel has an airy atrium with a small dining area at its base.

I've stayed here twice in the past. It is fairly priced and clean.

Nice Place -

The first Time I stayed here I went for the 380b air-con room which didnt have a fridge as stated above. It was a large clean room though with big flat screen TV. The 2nd time I stayed in the 120 fan room. The ones away from the street were windowless so I took a front facing one and was woken up by a chanting monk on a loud speaker every morning. If you can live without a window and mind the noise then go for the other rooms. It's a good place to stay though... each room has a clothes horse and dresser. It's where I stay each time I'm in town. You can walk there from the bus station

Mutmee Guesthouse
1111/4 Kaeworawut Road
Mutmee has long been Nong Khai's standout guesthouse. It has the most pleasant rambling gardens where you could easily lose a day or two with a good book, stuck in one of their hammocks. Set on the riverbank at the end of a soi that runs down from the main road, Mutmee is at the end of a veritable... more

Ruan Thai Guesthouse

This is a reasonably new addition to the guesthouse scene in Nong Khai and has a very pleasant small garden out front and well sized, spotless rooms. The staff here are particularly friendly and the service comes with a... more

Rimkhong Guesthouse

Set in a super sleepy garden enclosure, Rimkhong has a pleasant common area and a good range of information on the area. The rooms are adequate -- nothing too flash, but they're clean and comfortable. The location is very handy to the riverfront restaurants. A good second option if Mutmee is... more

Esan Guesthouse

Set in a medium sized single storey wooden house, Esan is well away fro the crowds (and just about everything else), but the rooms (with shared facilities) are spotless and well maintained. You may need to exercise some patience when trying to find someone to rent you a room. If you want to be well... more

Mekong Guesthouse

This popular riverfront place has very friendly and cheery staff and a well-appointed riverside restaurant, but is badly let down by average to really poor small rooms with grungy shared bathroom facilites. At least the rooms are cheap -- so you can't accuse them of... more
