In the middle of the Isaan countryside, Gecko Villa offers every comfort for a relaxing stay in the real Thailand. Available for rent as a full private house, the hosts offer a choice of privacy and independence or an integrated program. In the latter case they suggest a list of activities including learning about cooking, visiting local villages and festivals, or working in the surrounding rice fields. Every effort is taken to care for their guests comfort, with all extras such as pickup in Udon Thani, laundry, meals and other services. The surroundings are peaceful, and the traditional antique furnishings enhance the classically elegant atmosphere. Two separate bedrooms have their own private bathrooms, while the large living room is equipped with satellite tv and DVD. A gorgeous peacock green swimming pool looks out over surrounding rice fields. Recommended for honeymooners, adventurers or those wanting to splurge on a chill out. Prices include free airport pickup, local assistance, soft drinks, and any meals required.

Surreal! -

Heard about this place from friends and our stay lived up to their descriptions of this place. We thought we were being abducted as we were driven deeper into the rural outback with only grass huts and water buffalos...and then on dirt tracks ...through thick bamboo...to reach this large walled house and pool surrounded by cassava and sugar cane, rubber treees and thick woods! Total calm was a welcome break, and the hosts were charming and friendly...and great cooks too!
Take some suntan lotion and chill by the pool...we were invited to pick our own fruit and the passion fruit were irresistible!
Don't agree to the suckling pig feast unless you are not squeamish in the slightest...or at least, don't watch as it is prepared!
Tip: Take a book and suntan lotion and enjy the privacy of the pool with its views for half the stay. For the other half, go for the ''full induction''...rice whisky, local dances, boat trips et al!
Would recommend flying with Air Asia or Nok Air rather than TG...much cheaper!
Good stop on the way back fron Van Vieng and Laos if yuo cross back into Thailand from Vientiane.
