20 years young
Malee's Nature Lovers Bungalows has been going for 20 years now, so it's the longest standing of the Chiang Dao resorts.
Never fear though, as the rooms have fortunately seen regular upgrades and makeovers. This very friendly spot has a range of options to suit most budgets, with all the bungalows located in a pleasant and lush garden setting. The bungalows are well maintained with either wood or tiled floors, clean bathrooms and bamboo finishing on the walls. Honeymoon chalets are a cut above the rest - more spacious and with more attention to decor, and would make for a good splurge. It was pointed out to us that you don't have to be on honeymoon to be able to use them. All rooms have fans only, but air-con isn’t necessary at this altitude. See their website for the somewhat complicated array of prices throughout the year.
Free WiFi extends throughout the resort and the small saltwater swimming pool is a pleasant bonus. Bicycles and motorbikes are available for rent, and tours, hikes and treks can easily be arranged through super-experienced owner, Malee. These include either one- or two-day ascents of Doi Chiang Dao or a three-day trek with stays in hilltribe villages. Itineraries, prices and further details can be found on their site. Overall, this is an excellent choice, whether you hope to explore the area or you just want to kick back and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
