Nature Lovers Bungalows
A fine choice

What we say:
Malee's Nature Lovers Bungalows is just that -- a great spot for nature lovers to relax in the beautiful surrounds of Chiang Dao. This very friendly spot has a range of options to suit most budgets with all the bungalows set in a pleasant and lush garden setting. The restaurant is predominantly Thai food and along with trekking and birdwatching, you're welcome to learn to cook here. The bungalows are in good condition with clean bathrooms and tiled floors, though you may need some assistance to get the hot water to work -- we did. Their spacious honeymoon suite is a cut above the rest and would make for a good splurge (it was pointed out to us that you don't have to be on honeymoon to be able to use the room). Rooms are perhaps a little overpriced for the standard, but this is a comfortable and very friendly option. Free WiFi is a bonus. Recommended.

Highly recommended
We stayed in the Honeymoon bungalow, nicely tucked away in the garden with mountain views. The place is run by Malee, her husband, sister and brother and has friendly family atmosphere. Malee does not hesitate to go out of her way to arrange the activities for her guests and makes sure all goes without a glitch, she organized several activities for us including spelunking, Chiang Dao hike, visit to the Tuesday market, trip to Chiang Dao to enjoy the Loy Krathong, massage... all well worth it. The kitchen serves very good Thai meals. This is very nice place for the nature lovers, highly recommend it.

Beautiful, relaxing, great value
I recently came up to Malee's from Chiang Mai for a weekend with my Mum. We enjoyed it so much that we hardly left the garden and didn't want to leave after just two short days! In such a beautiful setting, surrounded by mountains, orchids and butterflys, delicious homemade food, a tiny but fabulous pool to cool off in, and the relaxed and welcoming nature of Malee and her family, we couldn't have asked for better for a lazy weekend escape. The bungalows are good value - spacious and nice private bathrooms. And the best thing was the incredible two hour massage we had in our bungalow! Malee can call up someone who comes right to your room and gives a professional, excellent value massage. I live in Thailand and have had A LOT of massage (both here and in the west), and I think I would say that it was the best massage I've ever had. My mum agreed. Overall, 10 out of 10! I'm sure we will be back.

Beautiful views
Prices have changed in Thailand Malees now starts at 300 for a very basic room with shared bathroom. As we were on a one night break we chose the honeymoon room 900 baht for one night . This room has large windows with an amazing view of the mountain and Malees garden where you can observe many different species of birds and butterflies. It also has a private balcony with hammock the room is fully screened and it also has a mosquito net and a super comfy bed. Malees garden is very peaceful there is also a plunge pool where you can relax with a drink or swim around in very small circles. The restaurant is fairly priced with a very good massaman curry on offer for 80 baht The staff at Malees where very friendly and helpful and patiently showed us many rooms when we arrived. Finally malees is next door to the nest with its well known gourmet restaurant.

Beautiful setting, fantastic service, a real highlight
Malee and her staff have pretty much got everything right. The bungalows are in a beautiful garden setting, great for chilling out, the food is delicious and the staff are all lovely. It is a great place to organise treks or bike rides from and somewhere you will probably stay longer than you planned (we did). You just feel at home - we really recommend it.

Good food, but rooms not great value
Room prices in Chiang Dao seem to have risen a lot recently; the cheapest bungalows here start at 500B, and are a bit dark and basic for what you get. I stayed in a room with shared bath for 250B, which would have been decent value at 150B. The bathrooms are OK, not the cleanest, though the guesthouse has nice lounging areas. However, the food was good and decently priced, and I enjoyed Malee's family dinners, which were a good deal at 120B per person. However, you can get much better value and better scenery by going out to Soppong and Pai, instead of coming to Chiang Dao.

Great Accomodation/great food!
Malee's is everything described here and more. Malee herself is a great host and makes you feel like a part of her family; sharing photographs of previous guests, sitting down to discuss your choice from the menu and stopping to have an informal chat. Though she took her time preparing the food, it was always delicious and very well presented. I'm definitely going back for another stay there!

Great place to relax
This place can get very busy over December to February and Malee takes bookings several months in advance for this period. We stayed here in May when there was virtually no-one else around. It was very relaxing and peaceful. We loved reading in the hammock and swing chair. Malee and her staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is great and we felt right at home. Our bungalow was actually well-endowed with lines to hang our clothes after washing - a rarity in most of my travels.
