Description
Malee's Nature Lovers Bungalows is just that -- a great spot for nature lovers to relax in the beautiful surrounds of Chiang Dao. This very friendly spot has a range of options to suit most budgets with all the bungalows set in a pleasant and lush garden setting. The restaurant is predominantly Thai food and along with trekking and birdwatching, you're welcome to learn to cook here. The bungalows are in very good condition with clean bathrooms and tiled floors. Their spacious Honeymoon Suite is a cut above the rest and would make for a good splurge (it was pointed out to us that you don't have to be on honeymoon to be able to use the room). Acomfortable and very friendly option. Recommended.

Good food, but rooms not great value -

Room prices in Chiang Dao seem to have risen a lot recently; the cheapest bungalows here start at 500 baht, and are a bit dark and basic for what you get. I stayed in a room with shared bath for 250 baht, which would have been decent value at 150 baht. The bathrooms are OK, not the cleanest, though the guesthouse has nice lounging areas. However, the food was good and decently priced, and I enjoyed Malee's family dinners, which were a good deal at 120 baht per person. However, you can get much better value and better scenery by going out to Soppong and Pai, instead of coming to Chiang Dao.

Malee's is everything described here and more. Malee herself is a great host and makes you feel like a part of her family; sharing photographs of previous guests, sitting down to discuss your choice from the menu and stopping to have an informal chat. Though she took her time preparing the food, it was always delicious and very well presented. I'm definitely going back for another stay there!

Malee and her staff treat you as guests. The food they make is very good at nice prices.Malee creates a relaxing atmosphere in a very nice garden setting. She also arranges good trekking options.A nice bungalow with fan and hot shower was 500 baht. She has more bungalows in other prices.Look at her website.

Great Place to Relax -

This place can get very busy over December to February and Malee takes bookings several months in advance for this period. We stayed here in May when there was virtually no-one else around. It was very relaxing and peaceful. We loved reading in the hammock and swing chair. Malee and her staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is great and we felt right at home. Our bungalow was actually well-endowed with lines to hang our clothes after washing - a rarity in most of my travels.

Very friendly people! They treat you like a guest, not like a tourist. Malee is a good cook and her selfmade bread is very good.
The bungalows were a bit dark (only 2 small windows) but very clean with tiled floors. A bungalow with fan and hot shower was 500 baht (cold shower was 100 baht less).

Very friendly -

The owner, Malee is very friendly and helpful, and helps book everything from taxis to tours. The reception-chilling out area is great, people can hang out there and talk, exchange information, and offers a very relaxing space for travellers.

Probably ended up staying in one of the smallest bungalows as it was booked out, but the room was unimpressive. Small and basic, had one fan and a double bed. The windows had netting, but very small and little breeze going through. The bathroom was very small, with a showerhead and toilet. The toilet was the sort that you had to manually pour water from a bucket into the toilet bowl. The shower was cold only, but there are 2 shared hot showers available outside.

Basically, the bungalow was very unimpressive, but the hospitality offered by the owner and staff was great.

Chiang Dao Nest
144/4 Moo 5 Ban Tham, Chiang Dao
When we visited this outstanding mini-resort the English and Thai owners were on holiday in France, though it is difficult to imagine why you'd ever go one holiday from a place like this! Chiang Dao Nest has a bunch of immaculate wooden and rattan bungalows set in a lovely little garden area... more
