Rachamankha

The hotel Chiang Mai has long deserved

This 25-room hotel opened in mid-2004 is what Chiang Mai has long deserved. Beautifully designed by the same architect responsible for Tamarind Village, only on a larger budget, Rachamankha's specifications match a famed temple outside Chiang Mai, with Chinese and Zen touches. We glimpsed a suite while we were here, which oozed taste and style. Try to chat with Khun Rooj, the interior designer, who has lovingly decorated the hotel with items ranging from colourful tiles bought in Seville 18 years ago to his mother's crystal glasses. Minor issues here are the bedding which wouldn't be out of place in a three star motel and the service which can be rather haphazard. Nevertheless, Ratchamankha is airy and tranquil, and provides a wonderful retreat from the bustle of the city.
