Description
Despite the odd name, Bow Chiang Mai is quite a nice guesthouse come hotel with a decent lobby and efficient staff. A small fifth floor rooftop balcony has a good view across Chiang Mai to the mountains when the air quality allows. Rooms are decently sized, clean with a choice of fan or air-con, and a TV with English-language channels, and private balconies. A small sign in rooms announces that sheets and towels are changed every three days. Downstairs is a slightly dark common seating area where daily papers and internet access are offered.

300 THB (low season) 300 THB (high season)

Dbl A/C private b'room

The best on Soi 9 -

This place is so clean it looks like it just opened even though they've been open for 3 years. They close up the front in the evenings which is a major plus for safety minded folks. The common area is celan and quiet. If you want to hang out with other unshaven backpackers go across the street to SK or Lana and then come back to your nice clean affordable room. Staff are also very friendly and helpful.

Bow House is a nice GH, although it is more of an Hotel than anything else. The rooms are big, they come with spotless bathrooms, cable TV, a small balcony and some nice decorations. The prices have changed, the rooms now costing 400 and 500 for AC. The AC in itself being kind of useless, since it's not at all as warm up in the northern parts of Thailand as in the South. The warm showers are super!

Great Place, Clean, Honest, Friendly -

We stayed there for 4 nights in July '06. The place is great - really clean (exceptionally clean in fact), friendly staff. Definitely recommend. A/C is good and new, which is not what I heard about other places in Chiang Mai. No pressure to buy any tours or anything like that, so you can explore Chiang Mai at your leisure.

Chiang Mai Thai House
5/1 Tapae Soi 5, Chiang Mai
The Chiang Mai Thai House opened in mid 2005 and represents outstanding flashpacker value. While it is more of a hotel than a guesthouse, the rooms and bathrooms are immaculate and we mean immaculate. Warm water showers, comfortable beds and a choice of fan or air-con give a range of options for... more

Pagoda Inn
49 Chang Moi Rd, Chiang Mai
Pagoda Inn's distinctive terracotta-painted buildings surround peaceful gardens with ponds flowing through them. Rooms are all different, and quite elegantly decorated for a low-budget guesthouse. They are quite small but nice and simple. Fan rooms are pretty plain, and those with windows are the... more

Sarah Guest House
20 Thapae Rd Soi 4, Chiang Mai
This lovely little guesthouse has clean basic rooms set in a private, relaxing garden. The staff are reportedly friendly and deservedly bring back stacks of return customers, although we have had reports of frostiness; it seems that if you're staying a while you are welcomed, but don't expect any... more

Tawan Guest House
4 Thapae Soi 6, Chiang Mai
This family-run place shows a lot of promise and has already developed into a popular choice amongst backpackers and independent travellers. Tawan Guest House has a lovely shaded garden and a selection of rooms -- some of which are a little pokey -- all with fan and shower. Recommended, although... more

Manee Guesthouse
23/5 Moon Muang Rd Soi 7, Chiang Mai
Right beside a temple, Manee Guesthouse is a lovely clean building with simple but large rooms and a selection of amenities, all set in the well-located Moon Muang Rd area of Chiang Mai. Run by a friendly young woman who speaks good English, rooms can be either air-con or fan-cooled, with... more

Sri Pat Guesthouse
16 Soi 7 Moon Muang Rd, Chiang Mai
Quite some work has gone into making Sri Pat look good. Nice rooms have elegant styling and full amenities, like air-con, telephone, fridge, TV with English-language programming and a hair dryer. Bathrooms are small and green, with the hot shower separated from the rest of the bathroom -- not... more

Baan Jong Come Guest House
47 Thapae Rd Soi 4, Chiang Mai
This tasteful little place has a small, very pleasant jazz-filled courtyard and garden along with very clean rooms which are mid-sized and functional, though nothing to write home about. One advantage of staying here is that you can use the pool at Thana guesthouse next door. While the pool is... more

Lanna Thai
41/8 Soi 6, Loikroh Rd
Simple but sizeable clean rooms fill this guesthouse which is a great choice if you're looking for somewhere near the night market. All rooms have a telephone, bathroom with hot shower, and a choice of fan or air-con. Staff are very helpful, and sell tours, bus tickets and other tourist activities... more

Lai Thai Guest House
111/4-5 Kotchasan Rd
The Lai Thai Guest House is a very popular spot with travellers and tour groups alike, but their rooms have not aged well. On the upside, the staff are friendly and there is a pleasant restaurant by the outdoor pool. The other issue here is the traffic noise -- the Lai Thai is right on the very... more

SK House
30 Moon Muang Rd Soi 9, Chiang Mai
This very popular guesthouse has a whole complex of attractive and recently renovated buildings including a restaurant and bar showing movies, internet, travel agency and swimming pool. Rooms are quite pleasant, and have a choice of fan or air-con. Staff are not very friendly or accommodating,... more

Pun Pun Guesthouse
321 Charoenrat Rd, Chiang Mai
Pun Pun has a selection of small rooms in a rambling property that runs down to the Ping River. The rooms are a little run-down but for the price and location represent fair value. The riverside area is very quiet and a charming spot to spend a few relaxing afternoon hours in the shade. The... more

Tapae Place Hotel
2 Tapae Rd, Soi 3, Chiang Mai
For the price, the Tapae Place Hotel is a pretty good deal if you're after standard cheap hotel fare within easy walking distance of Chiang Mai's central attractions. The hotel is pretty clean and has well-kept rooms, all with air-con, TV and hot shower, with a pleasant Thai-style theme. There's a... more

Thana Guest House
Thapae Rd Soi 4, Chiang Mai
Thana Guest House targets itself primarily at the Israeli backpacker market, but non-Israelis are equally welcome. The guest house is actually in two buildings (either side of the road) so there's a range of room and prices. Rooms are clean and well-maintained and the management are friendly.... more

Regina Restaurant and Guest house
69-73 Chareonrat Rd, Chiang Mai
Set behind a house that is over 100 years old and packed with a huge array of knick knacks for sale, the rooms here are a little on the dark and dank side, but the very pleasant riverside setting more than compensates. This location is very handy for the bars and restaurants along the Ping River... more

Libra Guesthouse
28 Moon Muang Rd Soi 9, Chiang Mai
Long-time established Libra has grown up into a rabbit warren of guesthouse buildings glued together with small but attractive garden areas. Many quite newly built, rooms are fairly standard for budget accommodation; clean and with a range in size and comfort level of amenities. Libra is one of... more
