Description
This very popular guesthouse has a whole complex of attractive and recently renovated buildings including a restaurant and bar showing movies, internet, travel agency and swimming pool. Rooms are quite pleasant, and have a choice of fan or air-con. Staff are not very friendly or accommodating, unless you're taking advantage of their many services and if you're not trekking with them you may find that the guesthouse is suddenly full. Libra guesthouse next door is much the same if SK is full, with room rates ranging from 150-400B.

SK - No Way! - ![]()

Agree with all the other comments. We stayed in the ''new block'' across the street from the main complex. Room was not clean, towels filthy and shower leaked over the bedroom floor due to strange design.
Manager Nina and her brother are not to be trusted. We booked a trek with these guys when we tried to get a discount she gave us a lecture on ''no cheating'' and ''everyone pays the same'' emphasising ''no cheating'' for 10 minutes , ok you might say but afterwards we of course find that we paid 300 bhat each more than others on the same trek & they were taking to visit extra places before joining the rest of us!
No Cheating indeed!
Best avoided at all costs.

I booked a room for 3 nights via an agent in Bangkok. S.K. house were supposed to wait and pickup at railway station. Well, they did not. When finally arriving to the guesthouse they did not have any available rooms. After waiting 2h I got the key for a room. Must have been the lousiest room they had. Shower hose was leaking and spayed water everywhere! Facet was hanging on the pipes and I was afraid it would fall on my feet at any time. The room was also next door to the owners private rooms. They were extremely loud until 2am on a regular weekday. No towels or toilet paper were provided so I had to demand this from the reception (the people were really lazy&rude and just seemed annoyed by being disturbed when doing nothing behind the desk). Do not be fooled by fancy brochures about this place, AVOID them! These people should not be running a guesthouse business since they obviously do not care the least about their paying guests. They charged 350B per night for a fan (noisy) room.

I've got to agree with the others. The rooms in this place are waaay too run down for the prices. I also had two guidebooks stolen. I asked two of the girls at the desk to look after by stuff on the table while I ran back up to my room to change. They happily agreed. When I came back less than 10 minutes later my two guidebooks and a map were gone. All of the sudden they were finding it next to impossible to communicate with me. Imediately left and went to Bow across the street. Cheaper and 10X better. It's too bad, with some effort this place could be good but right now I would avoid it at all costs.
One night was too much - ![]()

Had to ask for toilet paper, soap and a towel. There was one very thin sheet on the bed which did no good at all to keep me warm at night. There is a computer room but all of the computers were very slow due to a virus (it attached itself to my memory card and my laptop detected it).
After one night I couldn't leave fast enough.

We moved to SK from the much nicer Blue House because SK has a pool. We stayed a few nights, but were slowly put off by the dirtiness of the place - there were puppies around which did their business anywhere, and the final straw was when a live cockroach fell from the air con unit into our bed one morning. Not nice at all.

The Chiang Mai Thai House opened in mid 2005 and represents outstanding flashpacker value. Pagoda Inn
49 Chang Moi Rd, Chiang Mai
Pagoda Inn's distinctive terracotta-painted buildings surround peaceful gardens with ponds flowing through them. Rooms are all different, and quite elegantly decorated for a low-budget guesthouse. Sarah Guest House
20 Thapae Rd Soi 4, Chiang Mai
This lovely little guesthouse has clean basic rooms set in a private, relaxing garden. Bow Chiang Mai House
15 Soi 9 Moon Muang Road

Lai Thai Guest House
111/4-5 Kotchasan Rd
The Lai Thai Guest House is a very popular spot with travellers and tour groups alike, but their rooms have not aged well. Regina Restaurant and Guest house
69-73 Chareonrat Rd, Chiang Mai
Set behind a house that is over 100 years old and packed with a huge array of knick knacks for sale, the rooms here are a little on the dark and dank side, but the very pleasant riverside setting more than compensates. This location is very handy for the bars and restaurants along the Ping River... more
