Baan Orapin

Delightful

Baan Orapin is a delightful find which sits on the east side of the Ping River within easy walking distance of the riverside bars. The tasteful, spacious and spotless rooms are furnished with firm yet highly romantic four-poster beds, cable tv, fridge and air-con throughout. The bathrooms are absolutely immaculate. All this set in a lovely miniature garden. Towards the rear of the compound is the family house -- a 90 year-old wooden house that is a fave with visiting architecture students. Very friendly, English speaking management. Highly recommended. Reservations recommended in high season. The new swimming pool provides a perfect way to relax if you're not wandering around the city.

Give yourself a treat here - 2nd November, 2009
Stayed here in 2005 when the owner told me that they were contemplating about building a pool to cater for visitors. It's on the expensive side but really, if you have got a bit of Baht left and it's your last few days in Thailand, staying here should complete your holiday. The teak room was fantastic, and really, you just want to sit in the garden, drink coffee, read a book, and take a nap inside. There's a shop selling delicious sa khu sai mu, a kind of local dessert, just opposite of Baan Orapin. The lady owner spoke English and was courteous enough even though I stayed for only a day. However, I could understand from her tone that she would prefer to have guests who stayed longer than that. If you go in June or July, the ancient longan tree in the courtyard should be bearing fruit.

Not family friendly - 5th August, 2008
This place did look lovely (from the photos), but they were far from enthusiastic about taking a booking from a family. First they ignored my email, then they said no rooms could take 4 people. I thought there had been a misunderstanding since one was a baby. Then they begrudgingly said they could give us an extra bed, but really, it was a nice quiet place and they had no facilities for children (a pool and gardens is more than most places have). So - a word of warning to people with (young?) kids not to bother, and to anyone wanting to avoid familes - this place should be ideal!

Nice - 10th October, 2007
Very nice but only if you go for the newer bungalows in the rear. Those in front are looking quite worn on the inside with possible traffic noise. The breakfast was really good -- excellent coffee. It's on a street with riverside restaurants, upmarket art galleries, craft shops -- great if you like such stuff.

lovely but better for couples - 30th August, 2007
I agree with all the raves for Baan Orapin. It is a beautiful place, with gorgeous bungalows and gardens, great breakfasts and delightful staff. I can confirm that there is a pool now. I'd recommend booking one of the new bungalows at the back, because the one I stayed in at the front looked out onto the car park. I stayed there on my own, and didn't really need such a huge suite, but it would be great for a couple. Also, I wasn't crazy about the location - unless you want to visit the riverside bars, there wasn't much of interest around and it was a long hot walk(or short smoky tuktuk ride) up to the old city. So, it depends what sort of holiday you're looking for.

Excellent Stay! - 3rd April, 2007
We stayed at Baan Orapin for 5 nights - it was our favorite stay in a month of traveling. The rooms are clean, very nicely decorated, and the beds are very comfortable. The owners and staff are fantastic. There was construction going on while we were there but it didn't bother us too badly. They are building a pool now, once it is finished the place will be perfect! Location is good, short tuk tuk ride from the night market or Old City.

FRIENDLY - 14th November, 2006
Baan Orapin was by far the friendliest place we stayed. We had rooms in the older building upstairs - possibley the lesser of the rooms but were still happy. Building is in progress for some new rooms by Christmas, but the building work does not affect your stay. The staff were helpful without being in your face - while tours were available they wre not 'sold' to you. Position is perfect for eating and shopping

Baan Orapin - 21st August, 2006
We stayed for 3 nights with 2 couples in the superior rooms in the front, slightly older building. The rooms were beautiful with their canopy beds. Wonderful!
