Description
Built in 2001, the Rydges Amora is within easy walking distance of the Tha Phae Gate area of Chiang Mai and offers stunning mountain views over Doi Suthep. Overall a pretty standard mid-range hotel, the rooms are in very good condition and the staff amiable and helpful. Both the superior and deluxe rooms are fitted out with cable TV, air-con, safe and fridge and internet can be arranged in your room if you wish. The location is excellent. There is a fairly plain pool on the lower floors. The deluxe rooms have the mountain views. One minor drawback here is the abundance of gender bending vice workers who frequent the surrounding pavements at night, and can become annoying dependant on how you handle them (not literally!).

Deluxe- Double

Convenient, but noisy -

The Rydges is right on the ring-road that encompasses CM's old town. It's very convenient both for the notorious Night Bazar and the old town. Beware that it is rather noisy though.
The standard is not quite what you get at international chain hotels, but at the price still a good deal.
Personally I preferred the Novotel, because of its higher standard in rooms, service and breakfast plus its relative quiet. A little remote, but a 20THB tuk-tuk ride or their own free shuttle takes care of that

Have you stayed at Rydges Amora? What did you think?

Raming Lodge
17-19 Loi Kroh Rd, Chiang Mai
The oddly named Raming Lodge is set in the centre of the Loi Kroh shopping and bar strip and is great value for those determined to stay at the heart of the action. Both the standard and superior rooms are super-clean and well furnished, though only those on the higher floors have any view to speak... more
