What we say:

Baan Lansa boasts old-style, wooden chalets in a garden, a guesthouse formula that you don't see around much anymore in downtown Chiang Mai — we're not sure how long it'll be before someone buys the land, a job lot of reconditioned teak and some whitewash and builds a Lanna-style boutique resort there. But for now it's worth considering for its quaintness, with a great central location nearly opposite Wat Phra Singh and next door to Buri Gallery, but with rooms set behind a large enough cafe to keep the street noises down. In fact the large bar/caf�/restaurant garden area has live bands on Sunday evenings. There are nine wooden chalets that are fairly basic, but all have bathroom and fan and go for 350 baht each — no high season supplement. Friendly, easygoing service.
