Banana Guest House
Popular traveller flophouse

What we say:
This popular Japanese-Thai managed place is often full, though the popularity is a little difficult to fathom as the staff were really offhand upon our last visit. Separate male and female dorms are available. Rooms are a little grotty. The in-house restaurant does Thai, western and Japanese food. Potentially the draw here is the low prices combines with the hippy decor, making this an appealing option if you're into pad thai while wearing fisherman pants and beaded necklaces. The staff will pick you up from the bus station which is a nice touch.

Seasoned, wall needs repaint
too much grafitty all over the walls. It may look nice to some, but to others it appears like scars. I stayed at 2nd floor, single queen size bed with hot shower. The sink has no outlet pipe, so it goes straight down the floor on your feet. Mirror is in the bathroom only, only a small table stood inside room. The varendah is a long common one, looking at the roof of 1st floor. Its good enough to sleep only. Price paid was 250bh per nite, Owner speaks english. No, I wouldnt come again here.

Relaxed
Full of interesting people, this guest house where we spend only one night is really quite and interesting. The walls are covered by thoused of signs. The atmosphere is relaxed and is really cheep. The center is 10 min. by walk and they have a lot of opportunities to make organized tours (only if you like this kind of things)

OK
Ok rooms, quite old but clean enough. We stayed in a double room with hot water shower. It costs 240B now, not 200B as listed above. Shower was nice and warm and you get clean towels. The guest house caters to a lot of Japanese guests and seems to have lost a bit of it's charm that I'd heard of in recent years. The main entrance downstairs is pretty dark and dingy and we ate once in the restaurant and the food was pretty bad. Having said that if you just want a clean room on a budget it's not a bad choice.
