Eagle House No 1
Very popular, a little grotty

What we say:
Eagle House's big asset is its very pleasant garden and common area, which draws a steady custom. As with the other Eagle House, however, the rooms are grimy and the walls in particular could do with some sand-blasting and a coat of paint. Good and reasonably priced Thai and western food is available. The cooking school comes recommended. The cooking school comes recommended.

Not 5 star room but 5 star helpfulness
I have just spent 10 days in Chaingmai staying at Eagle House 1. Whilst the accommodation is not fantastic the owner and staff are. They helped me get over my culture shock and get on with my Thailand journeys. They happily helped me book tours and treks, and one of the staff even went to the train station to buy me a ticket! Definitely 5 star service!

Just alright, cheap
Quite cheap for having a private bathroom. Rooms were cheap enough. Great location. It was quiet and the garden area looked like a nice place to relax. The big draw for me was the free pickup at the bus station. Of course the weekend that I came their driver was ''away'' and there were several staff members doing ver little when I arrived...

I don't get it
We stayed here on the recommendation of a friend, without checking the Travelfish assessment (wouldn't make that mistake again!), and it was definitely the worst place we stayed in Thailand. The bed was awful (even by Thai standards--we might as well have been sleeping on the floor, it was so hard), and the walls were super-thin, a fact that was painfully evident when some other guests decided not to observe the posted ''quiet hours.'' The room, though uninspiringly decorated, was at least clean and relatively cheap...but that seemed to be the only thing this place had going for it. (Though we didn't eat at the restaurant or book a tour--maybe those are the big draws here. Who knows?)

OK, needs some new paint
I stayed here for a few nights when I arrived in Chiang Mai. Location to the old city is nice and it's a quiet area. Rooms are clean, but definitely in need of some fresh paint. Hosts are friendly and knowledgeable and no pressure for treks. Also, great, cheap restaurant menu. Double air-con room as of 2/07 was 290B.

OK, but a little grungy.
The patio is very nice. The rooms leave much to be desired but it is cheap. The cooking school is the best of the three I attended.
