Description
This massive guesthouse is an ok choice for families or travellers willing to pay a little more for some creature comforts. The rooms here are nothing special, a tad uncared for, and some of the bathrooms are pretty grimy, though the rooms are a decent size and have quite a few amenities like telephones and televisions with English, but overall this is not the cleanest place around. The very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere are Top North's biggest assets. The large pool is also a bonus.

Loud Music nextdoors! -
By sTravel ( total comments: 4  More information please ) Stayed here 1/2008
Unfortunately the Top North Guesthouse doesn't qualify for good housing unless lack of sleep is of no concern. Main issue that there are some major nightclubs one block away and they have so powerful soundsystem that the bedframe was shaking and windows rattled until late morning. Estimate is that they start this around 22:00 and end sometime 02:00-03:00. Otherwise the room offered a mini-balcony, decently clean room and bed sheets. Nice to have the pool and spa with sauna. If the nightclubs would move elsewhere I could recommend this place.

Loud and dirrrty -

I went there when I arrived at Chiang Mai because on the web it seemed nice, but after one night I went over to the Tawan Guesthouse. Reasons why I didn't like it here: I was tired after travelling for more than 10 hours and needed some sleep, but The loud music of the Disco kept me awake for a long time. Also the room was dirty with big spiderwebs. The bathroom was even dirtier than the room, and the shower was awful!
Pluspoint: A nice swimmingpool.

So don't go here, unless you want to hang around the pool all day!

Forget it! -

I just can say: Donīt go there! We go there, cause it looks very nice on the homepage. But after arriving, we was very dissapointed. The rooms are dirty (realy dirty with bigger spiderwebs than in the djungle) and also very old. First we want to stay there four nights, but after two nights without one minute of sleep we moved to another place, cause there is a very loud Discothek just around the corner. At least we found a nother guest house which was very new and clean and we paid only 50 Baht more for the room.
I canīt understand how some people or travelguides can recommend the Top North Guest House. For me there is not one only reason to go there again.

pretty dirty thing -

The Top North Hotel messed up our booking and decided to put us up here. The room was very basic and dirty but the pool area was good. Also a good location. Staff were the surliest we met in Thailand.

Worth it for the pool -

Some of the rooms here are a bit grotty, so look at a few to make sure you're happy. Having the pool was brilliant, and the tour desk very helpful and informative. Would stay here again.

don't go -

The rooms were ugly, not very clean, and one AC didn't function. The staff wasn't efficeitn and the swimmming pool was crowded. We left after one night.

Nice place, good location. -

We paid 200B a night at the Top North Guesthouse for a twin room (hot water). We had two rooms, and both were basic but clean. The provided towels -- didn't always smell clean though! Nice to have a pool, but it needs replacing, the broken tiles cut my feet! Lots of families here, but I would disagree that it's a good place for families. The surrounding bars are mostly brothels. You get used to being surrounded by prostitution when travelling around Thailand, it's just their way, and can be quite a laugh especially as a white female travelling with white men! That said, if I was a mum I wouldn't be taking my kids. Although, for Chiang Mai, this is probably as family orientated as your gonna get!

Pretty bad! -

I booked ahead but luckily looked at the room first. Wouldn't want to spend a night there, especially for the steep price. Only good feature might be the pool.

Stay away! -

Filthy as ****, and run-down. Only 150B less than the much better newer TN Hotel.

Pretty good -

The rooms are a close match for hotels twice the price and the pool is also pretty decent. Parts of the pool area are quite shaded at certain times of the day, but that's not always a bad thing. Decent restaurant, good location and overall if I go back to Chiang Mai I'll probably stay here again.
