Guesthouse
Top spot in the middle of nowhere

What we say:
No name as such but it's easy to spot -- look for a large varnished teak building surrounded by grassy (camping) area, just on the southern edge of the village. The guesthouse is halfway between homestay and guesthouse with just three rooms for rent in this house belonging to a very friendly elderly couple -- their son Yai is based in Chiang Mai and heads out to his village during the high season to help out his parents and run the treks. Simple but comfortable rooms coming with bathroom and fan go for 400-500 baht (they aren't sure yet), and you'll be well looked after and fed -- a bit like staying with your Thai grandparents really. If you can't stretch to 400 baht then they will rent you a tent plus site on the lawn next to the house for a couple of hundred baht.
