Old Tree's House

Low occupancy, high quality

What we say: 3.5 stars

Old Tree's House consists of five bungalows scattered across densely settled gardens. While the gardens are quite lovely, the real star of this resort are the bungalows themselves, which are very spacious, gorgeously decorated, comfortably furnished, and a cut above most that you will see in Tha Ton — or anywhere else for that matter. An especially nice touch is the separated toilet and shower, with a double sink splitting the two. In the centre of the grounds is a small pool, and while you certainly won't have enough room to get your laps in, you will at least have a place to cool off and perhaps even get a bit of tanning done. A restaurant with a view is located toward the top of the hill, though they were not open when we visited, so we cannot vouch for quality or cost. Old Tree's is owned by a Thai-French couple, so you will have no problem communicating in either English, French or Thai. Again, occupancy is not high, so calling ahead is probably a good idea if you know you'll be in Tha Ton. Although it's on the expensive side, very few would accuse Old Tree's of being overpriced, and it's certainly one of the best midrange options in town.
