Not quite Kamphaeng Phet's diamond
Despite its claim of being the "Diamond of Kamphaeng Phet", the Phet could use a little of the renovation love that's been given to both of its city-style hotel competitors in recent years.
With stained carpets that smell faintly of stale cigarette smoke and dated furniture and appliances, the rooms we checked out have seen better days. Still, they're well kept and each are spacious, bright and outfitted with air-con, cable TVs, fridges and coffee/tea making facilities. Located in the heart of the city's commercial and nightlife area, the Phet seems aimed at Thai customers who are looking to live it up. It has private karaoke rooms and also manages the adjacent Banana Pub, a 600 person capacity nightclub with disco and live music rooms complete with modern sound and light systems. Perhaps they should have allotted some of their profits into upgrading the rooms rather than buying new toys for the nightclub, but then, we guess most of the customers could care less about a few carpet stains when they stumble back from the club at 02:00 am.
